WORKABILITY | ENHANCED FINISHABILITY | DURABILITY
Chryso®V-Mar Admixtures enhance concrete rheology for diverse applications, improving segregation resistance in self-consolidating concrete (SCC), reducing washout in underwater placements, and optimizing zero slump extruded concrete. These products streamline concrete placement by improving workability and finishability including mixtures with harsh aggregates and manufactured sands. By enhancing the lubricity and flowability of the concrete mix, they result in smoother placement and a higher-quality surface finish. Chryso®V-Mar is also used by producers and contractors to help address performance challenges associated with some cementitious materials, including workability, finishability, and consistency in real world conditions.
How the Chryso®V-Mar Series Works
Superior Finishability
Improves cream layer, concrete mix responsiveness, and reduces surface defects.
Pump & Place Efficiency
Lowers pump pressure and increases the ease handling coarse or low-slump mixes.
Weather
Resilience
Performs well in high evaporation environments such as in high-heat, windy, or with low humidity
Supports Sustainability
Works well with Type IL & other blended cements, supplementary cementitious materials & harsh aggregates
Tame Type IL Concrete Performance with Chryso®V-Mar
Why Type IL is Changing
Concrete Performance
Concrete Performance
The transition to Type IL cement is accelerating as the concrete industry moves toward lower carbon solutions. While Type IL delivers meaningful sustainability benefits, many producers and contractors are experiencing new performance challenges in real world conditions including…
- Stickier, harsher mixes
- Workability and finishability behaviors
- Rheology variability
- Increased jobsite complaints
These parameters can impact productivity, placement efficiency, and surface quality, especially when traditional mix designs and finishing practices are applied without adjustment.
How Chryso®V-Mar Helps
Tame Type IL Concrete
Tame Type IL Concrete
Chryso®V-Mar is engineered to help producers regain control of concrete performance in Type IL mixes by improving rheology, finishability, and consistency from batching through placement. V-Mar helps with…
- Improving rheology and flow for more predictable
concrete behavior - Reducing stickiness and harshness for easier
handling and placement - Enhancing pumpability and placement efficiency
- Modifying concrete mixture bleed characteristics
- Delivering smoother finishing and better
surface appearance - Stabilizing performance across varying Type IL
cement formulations
The result is more consistent concrete performance and better outcomes at the jobsite.
Technical
Partnership
Partnership
Type IL cement performance can vary significantly depending on raw material sources, cement production methods, regional supply chains, mix design interactions
Chryso understands that concrete performance challenges are rarely solved with a one-size-fits-all approach. Our technical teams work directly with producers to:
- Analyze the cement actually being used
- Optimize mix designs for local materials
- Support project execution
- Troubleshoot field performance issues
With Chryso®V-Mar and hands on technical support, producers gain a partner focused on solving real world concrete performance challenges, not just supplying an admixture.
Understanding Type IL from Cement to Concrete
Type IL performance challenges don’t start at the concrete plant. They begin
with how cement is produced, activated, and interacts within the mix.
Chryso brings a unique advantage to the industry: we understand both
cement chemistry and concrete performance. This dual expertise
allows Chryso to:
- Anticipate Type IL performance parameters
- Deliver solutions that restore workability and finishability without sacrificing sustainability goals
With Chryso®V-Mar, the transition to lower carbon cement doesn’t have
to mean compromising concrete performance.

Chryso®V-Mar 3: Viscosity Modifier
Chryso®V-Mar 3 improves moisture tolerance, prevents aggregate segregation, and enhances workability and surface appearance. With minimal impact on air entrainment and normal set times, it also helps reduce pump pressure, improves consistency in challenging conditions like high winds or low humidity, and mitigates both plastic and drying shrinkage cracks.
Chryso® V-Mar F100: Rheology Modifier
Chryso®V-Mar F100 is a high-performance admixture developed for zero and low slump concrete, enhancing lubricity in low water content mixes to improve surface quality, productivity, and ease of placement. It modifies the concrete’s rheology to deliver cohesive, smooth-flowing mixes with improved workability that reduces stickiness. This allows for efficient extrusion, faster discharge rates, and a consistently refined surface finish throughout the application.

Contractors Love Chryso®V-Mar
Contractors often struggle to finish concrete, particularly in environments with high evaporation or when working with harsh aggregates or lower-carbon cementitious mixes like Type 1L cement. Conventional admixtures, such as evaporation retarding agents or silica-based additives, provide surface benefits but tend to lack in delivering internal consistency and long-term durability.
To address these challenges, Chryso® introduced a viscosity-modifying admixture (VMA) formulated with a proprietary blend of biopolymers. Unlike traditional admixtures that only work on the surface, this innovative VMA enhances the entire concrete matrix. The results were impressive: improved consistency of finish, reduced cracking, and enhanced production efficiency—all achieved without necessitating extensive adjustments to their operation. This comprehensive approach ensures improved internal consistency and durability, meeting the high standards of performance required in today’s construction industry.
By adopting Chryso®V-Mar Admixtures, concrete producers are able to deliver a superior product, satisfying both contractors and clients. This breakthrough solution has set a new benchmark in concrete production, demonstrating that innovation and quality can go hand in hand.
“This product works through the whole mix, not just the surface.
That’s a game-changer.”
Steve Degraeve, George J. Shaw Construction
The image shows how Chryso®V-Mar’s unique polymeric structure aligns under energy, such as vibration or pumping, allowing coarse, angular sand to flow like rounded sand through the system. As the concrete moves, the polymers slide and reduce internal friction and pump pressure, then interlock again once the energy stops, returning the concrete to its original state.
